My Good Friend TED

It wasn’t that long ago that someone introduced me to my new, diverse, and very intelligent friend, TED. While you can learn more about TED by clicking here, I can give you the annotated version. TED stands for technology, entertainment, design. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “ideas worth spreading.” TED originated as a singular conference but has grown into many conferences. It now boasts a wonderful website that has expanded it reach beyond the United States by bringing these ideas to many other countries, with many of the talks translated into several languages.

As someone who prides herself on thinking (long, hard, and often) and learning, discovering TED has brought more insight and beauty into my life on a weekly basis. It wasn’t too many months ago that I began my weekly TED talks where I set aside a little bit of time each week to watch a new TED video. These ideas presented in the talks are infectious! They truly are ideas worth spreading. More often than not, I find myself sharing the links with friends and family in the hopes that they take just a few minutes to watch and listen, and learn something new.

Why did I wait to post about it now? Because I have neglected by blog for far too long. I have decided that I need to do a little less thinking and a little more writing when it comes to the blog; ideas are wonderful, but it’s what we do with them that really counts. Right? Consider this me, kicking my own ass!

Again, why did I wait? I just finished watching J.K. Rowling’s commencement speech at Harvard – The Fringe Benefits of Failure. Not only is she a gifted writer, but a moving speaker as well. She shared her thoughts on the importance of failure as well as imagination, and how they can help to create your success. I decided I’ve failed at my blog for far too long and decided that this was the perfect opportunity to make it work, or begin to make it work, at least!
